Dear colleague,
Welcome back to the start of a new academic year and our 4th year as your local Teaching School Hub!
We hope you have had a restful and enjoyable break and are excited about the year ahead.
As you return to your busy jobs and roles, this month's newsletter will provide you with some key reminders such as ECF/AB enrolment and our Autumn NPQ application deadline for our Autumn cohort.
We are also delighted to be sharing information about our ITT Primary programme which commenced September 2nd, alongside the usual spotlight section.
Finally, there is an opportunity for your school to win a £50 Amazon gift voucher. To be in with a chance of winning, please take 5 minutes to complete our annual School Leader Satisfaction Survey. Once you have done so, you will be entered into the free prize draw. The deadline for entry into this draw is October 23rd.
Kind regards,
Alan and the Potentia Team

Initial Teacher Training (ITT) plans for 24/25
|
|
School involvement in ITT benefits teachers, trainees and pupils. It enables leaders to spot and nurture talent and creates opportunities for the whole school team to engage in professional dialogue about evidence-informed practice.
This first newsletter of the year is an opportunity to outline how Derbyshire schools can work collaboratively with Potentia TSH in 2024-25 in ITT.

Primary PGCE Term 2 Placement Request
|
|
We are exceptionally proud to be Delivery Partners for the school-based, provider-led primary route with University of Derby. Our ‘Team Potentia’ trainees are now settled into their placement schools for this term.
Would you be interested in offering a term 2 placement to a ‘Team Potentia’ primary trainee in spring 2025? Mentors in all schools who host trainees will benefit from up to 20 hours mentor training to enable them to fulfil the role, in line with expectations outlined in the ITT reforms, and supported by DfE funding. There is also an expectation that mentors spend 1.5 hours with their trainee each week.
To express an interest in hosting a term 2 ITT placement and to request more details about funding and mentor training, please contact itt@potentiatsh.co.uk.

‘Keen to Teach?’ School Experience Days
|
|
This year, several Derbyshire schools have hosted school experience days for graduates who are keen to teach. These opportunities provide an insight into school life and they have been very well-received.
We are currently seeking to expand our list of available schools across the region. To add your school to our list, please contact itt@potentiatsh.co.uk.

Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeships
|
|
This year, a number of schools have contacted us to take advantage of the Apprenticeship Levy to upskill a current member of staff or to recruit a new member of staff.
Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeships are available at both primary and secondary. We are working in collaboration? with Best Practice Network (BPN) to support schools to access these routes in Derbyshire. More information is available on our website. Please click on Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeships for further details.
If you are considering this route for a colleague in your school in 2024-25, and would like to speak to a headteacher or apprentice about their experiences, we may be able to connect you. Please contact itt@potentiatsh.co.uk.

|
The University of Derby supports schools to access the Assessment Only route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). As a Teaching School Hub, we signpost to this pathway. This flexible, convenient route may be appropriate for a member of staff who has considerable experience of working in education. They would like to be a qualified teacher but need to achieve QTS. This allows schools to support a member of staff to obtain QTS whilst in their current role.
Do you have a colleague in your school for whom Assessment Only may be appropriate? Click on Assessment Only Route to QTS for further information and contact details.

Teacher Degree Apprenticeships (TDA)
|
|
The TDA is a new apprenticeship route into teaching: a 4-year course with an average of 40% off the job training. This will start to recruit in autumn 2024 for primary and secondary in all subjects. In addition, a secondary maths pilot will also start to recruit in autumn 2024. Training for all routes will commence in autumn 2025.
To find out more, see our June 2024 Newsletter.
